2009 Socks & Mittens Drive
When Foothills United Way held its first-ever Socks & Mittens drive six years ago, the motivation was simple: Our partners in the community had told us that warm socks, mittens and gloves were some of the hardest cold-weather items to come by for those in need.
So, Socks & Mittens was born, with the idea to partner with businesses and individuals to collect donated items and get them to our partner agencies, who could then distribute them to clients.
Six years on, the Socks & Mittens Drive continues to be a big success. So far in 2009, 2,038 cold weather clothing items have been donated.
A great story to come out of the 2009 drive is that of 9-year old Sam Seybold. At Sam's recent birthday party, he asked his guests to bring donations for Socks & Mittens instead of presents. Sam ended up collecting 60 items, which he delivered to the Foothills United Way office in Lafayette earlier this week.

In addition to Sam, 16 other local companies, organizations and individuals have taken part in this year's drive. Participants included Brittany Ridge Women With A Purpose, Centennial Lending, Coors, Betty Farrington, Foothills United Way, GE Water and Power, Gold Systems, InfoPrint Solutions Company, Pat Larson, Mountainside Medical, Northrop Grumman, Polycom, Premier Members Federal Credit Union, St. Vrain Valley Credit Union, Stephen Sparn Architects, Taggart & Associates, and Warm Up Flatirons.
To everyone who took part, thank you for LIVING UNITED and helping to keep someone warm this winter!
