From the President

JDY-headshot1.gifDear Friends,

Thank you for being an important stakeholder in Foothills United Way!  We are in the midst of transforming Foothills United Way, positioning for a future that achieves measurable change in Boulder and Broomfield County communities.  We are convinced that the largest contribution we can make in to our community is early intervention to prevent problems from growing larger and more expensive. We also believe that in a world where families’ challenges are the result of complex factors (finances, education, and health) -- the solutions that work are not simple either; success comes when people and effective organizations lend their strength to a coordinated set of strategies that work toward a joint, measurable goal.

Our local volunteer board of directors affirmed these ideas recently when they focused Foothills United Way’s agenda for the next several years “upstream” on two areas that will help give children a good start on a successful life.  After several months of discussions with a variety of community leaders, issue experts and regular citizens across our area, Foothills United Way’s Board of Directors gave strong and enthusiastic support to narrow our focus to affordable housing for families and strengthening families for successful early childhood development.

In both of these areas, there are already efforts across the nonprofit, government and private sectors. Foothills United Way’s role will be to support and build on those efforts, connect key players, implement evidence-based practices and leverage regional and national resources to accelerate progress.  By concentrating resources, partners, and the community’s attention on these two critical, future-facing issues, Foothills United Way can help bring results that will pay dividends for all of our residents in the coming years!

We know it takes a strong network of services to tend to the needs across the age spectrum in our community.  Your support of United Way over the years has helped build that effective infrastructure of caring organizations in our community.  We now encourage you to stay invested -- in a model of collective action where our community assets work together to bring real, lasting improvements to people’s lives!

Stay tuned for progress updates as we build the new United Way!
